FULGAZ PICKS

If you’ve ridden just about any ride in FulGaz, you’ve experienced Pete’s work. Initially, he contributed some rides himself, but before long his involvement grew and for over three years now he’s been working away on the ride data itself.

You can check out his many rides in FulGaz by searching for ‘Kettle’.

Lochie McLoch Face

In my mind, Lochie captures the essence of FulGaz. Amazing scenery, amazing skies, and an almost perfect route – a mixture of flat, rolling, and steep, all on closed roads with only other cyclists and walkers for company – one that everyone on Fulgaz can manage. As its name hints, FulGaz is fun; indoor training shouldn’t always be about FTP tests and climbing Tour de France mountains.

Cote de Park Rash

A classic climb in Yorkshire. I had heard so much about this that I was determined to have a go, and what better day to film than on race day in early May 2018 under sunshine and clear blue skies.

You can enjoy the atmosphere and the cheering crowds too; Stephane Rossetto commented after the race “It has an amazing crowd and so many spectators. It’s like being on Tour de France here”.

The Llanberis Pass

When I was growing up our annual summer holiday was invariably two weeks in North Wales, and if we were lucky we’d have a ride on the steam train from Llanberis up to the top of Snowdon.

If we were really lucky, there would be views at the top across the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man; however it was usually cold and misty with a nasty wind blowing. I filmed this ride under clear skies on a crisp February morning along empty roads. The following day, these roads were covered in snow.

Goldfinger

Goldfinger is my favourite James Bond film, and I had been planning this ride for ages. With the UK still in lockdown and with sunshine and clear blue skies, this ride turned out even better than I could have hoped for.

Classic rolling Chiltern lanes almost empty of traffic lead you to the long tree-lined drive of the Stoke Park golf club, scene of the famous golf match between James Bond and Auric Goldfinger, where we meet the henchman Oddjob.

This Way Up – Zig Zag Hill and Hovis Hill

This ride features “Hovis Hill”, or more correctly, Gold Hill, in Shaftesbury, Dorset. Here’s your chance to ride up that impossibly steep and cobbled hill under sunshine and clear blue skies, after warming up through some typically rolling and scenic English countryside.
