RoadNats 2020 Elite Time Time Course

The Nationals are one of my favourite races of the year so I’m always excited to get on this course on FulGaz as it brings back great memories for me as I won the 2020 national time trial title this year on it.  I like that this ride has a bit of everything – the start is challenging, so pacing always plays a big role, then there is a big rolling/flat section which is where you can really push, tuck and hold up to 55km/h.  On the way home a nice little descent towards the finish.  See if you can beat my time two laps in 46mins19secs!

Rocacorba Girona

A local favourite of mine, this is very close to my apartment in Girona. Rocacorba is a brutally steep climb but it’s a great test on the form before heading off to a Grand Tour. The most I’ve ridden this in one day is three times so have a go at beating that.

Alpe d’Huez

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with this climb… I raced here during the Tour a few years back and was one of the toughest days on the bike for me but it was an achievement just to finish and overcome this epic climb. This climb is great to break down in sections you just tick off each switchback, there’s  21 in total. Just look at one corner at a time and before you know it you’re at the top. Don’t forget to look up as there are some great views!

Kona Ironman

I’ve never been to Kona or been even close to doing an Ironman, but I would like to one day. Personally, I think riding 180km on the ergo is crazy but when the restrictions were on in Spain I had to think of challenges to keep me motivated and Kona was perfect. What better way to tick off one for the legs and ride one of the most epic sporting events there is, the Hawaii Ironman.

Muur van Geraardsbergen and Bosberg

Cycling is the main religion in Belgium and these two climbs are the spiritual home of racing. The Classics are my favourite races of the year and these two iconic bergs (hills) are always part of a crucial moment in Tour de Flanders. In real life, they run into the Muur is one of the most tricky, hectic and fast in cycling which is great for spectators, but on the bike, with 140 other riders around you, it’s a bit hairy!
